Monsoon, fire, flood, and famine; a recipe for misery for animals

No flyball dogs today... but please spare a thought for all those innocent animals: wild animals, pets, and farm livestock... who are undergoing dreadful conditions.

What with monsoons in India, floods in the UK, fires in Greece, and famine in Zimbabwe... there have been a great deal of 'natural disasters' for animals to suffer in recent months.

Click Here for more details on the following topics...

"Have you ever wondered how wild animals fare during floods? Our team in India found out following torrential monsoon rains in India. HSI India and the Animal Help Foundation are in the field rescuing wildlife and educating people about how we can help our wild neighbors in times of need.

With little food available and thousands of people leaving the country every day, the animals of Zimbabwe are finding themselves in dire straits. HSI is working with local and national groups to ensure pets, farm animals and wild animals are safe and cared for."

The items above are quotes from the HSI newsletter... if you Click this link you can find out about this, and other work undertaken on behalf of animals worldwide.

Pet toys and Treats

Toys for your pet... now is a great time to stock up on toys and treats for your pet as there is a Sale at Dog Supplies USA and also a Clearance at Petplanet

At Dog Supplies you can find out what the most popular toys are, you can also check the rating of the various toys which are available. Items can get up to a 5 star rating, a useful facility to check. Amongst the most popular are Kong Toys, Balls, and Rope Toys. Remember, with balls, to get a ball which is big enough for your pet - don't get a too small one, which could, potentially, get stuck in his or her throat.

At Petplanet you will find plenty of toys for both dogs and cats [and other pets too] - Rubber Chew Toys and Throw Toys prove very popular, as are treats, in the form of favourite foods!

PLEASE NOTE:---
There is a full review of both stores within this Flyball Dogs blog - dated March 13th, 2007

The quoted item below is part of a request for help I received...

"Pemberton taxi's in Wigan are having a grand auction night in aid of guide dogs for the blind.

They are hoping to raise five thousand pounds to sponser a guide dog.

The event is being held at the Douglas Bank Pub, Wigan on August 24th.

The event has been registered with the local Guide Dog branch located in Bolton. You can verify this on Bolton 01204 546510 ... if you could offer any help we would be grateful."

USA help/assistance

For USA help/assistance in all aspects of flyball just try the following web address...Flyball... there's loads of general info, contact info, and more to be found on the website. Might as well read/learn/research if actual flyball is impracticable due to unsuitable weather!

4DogFlight is to be found on the flyball website, together with many, many, more links to various clubs. The 4DogFlight link gives details of available classes... and the requirements for new owners and dogs... very informative for newbies, and intermediates too.

Thoughts on Rain and Floods

With all the appalling weather we are having in the UK, many outdoor events have had to be cancelled due to safety aspects. In all it's history The Royal [Agricultural] Show, which is held just outside Kenilworth in Warwickshire, has never had to be cancelled before... but this time the final day had to be cancelled.

The TV pictures from the car parks were horrific, even though we have a 4 x 4 we would not have attempted it because of the bottlenecks in the car parks and other vehicles being stuck in front of you! The parking is in a low area, with a river flowing through, which doesn't help matters. Just mud, mud, and more mud!

Our next doggy day out is to the Rhodesian Ridgeback Welfare Trust summer barbeque day... which is to be held on Sunday - dare I say the weather forecast is NOT for rain! Proceeds are to help finance the re-homing of Ridgebacks who are in need of rescue... a fun day for both owners and dogs alike.

Let's hope that the weather improves, and the clear up and drying out of great swathes of our country is effected with much greater speed than is normal!
